PROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENTS FOR BUYING AND SELLING
The first thing you need to do is to honestly and objectively evaluate your horse, pinpointing their strengths, weaknesses, ability level and temperament. It’s hard to do if that’s your only horse and you’ve spent years riding and loving him. You tend to turn a blind eye to his flaws.
To know how to price and market your horse, you need to have a clear and unbiased understanding of his abilities. If you have a trainer, then it would be good to ask for an opinion about your horse’s good and bad points, and about what they think of his overall potential.
In a perfect world we could keep all of our horses forever. But the reality is horses age, children outgrow their ponies, and riders advance their skills or change disciplines. Inevitably, as a horse owner, at some point you’ll find yourself as a seller of your one time best friend.
