It was a sad Monday today.

I had Temptation put to sleep. It was a very tough decision but I think one has to think of the horse. She was no longer sound on the near fore, which meant she would not have stood up to much riding, and although living in a field doesn’t sound the worst, its actually tough on the horse in the Winter.

She would have lived out and its already been a tough year, but it still doesn’t make it easy when you have the control of somethings life, whilst I know I did the right thing as it was either now or in the near future I still feel dreadfully sad about ending the life of such an amazing mare, pprobably the best 6 year old in the country at one point and went on to be a Top International Speed Horse. I guess she made a lot of people very happy, and I really pray that I made the last 5 years of her life happy for her too. God knows she deserved it.

I remember talking to Lars years ago about death and he told me horses don’t have a soul, they don’t morn, their very fickle he said. I do understand that. But I am not so sure, as when she fell to the ground amongst the beautiful peace that Monday brings to my yard, every horse whinnied at that point. I guess one never knows.

Jason came along to do the deed. I like him a lot, he is a a decent man. I could sense how genuinely sad he was to do it. I liked that a lot. He probably thought I was very tough, but I’m not, but I am very good at pulling myself together when its necessary, then when I am on my own I die.

I made it light hearted telling him stories of how Chris and I put so many down over the years, looking back it was funny, once he missed, he shouted bloody thing moved its head, God I was distraught. Another time when we decided injection was the way forward, (as at that point with Parkinson’s, Chris`s hand was none to stable for a gun), I am sure he didn’t give it enough. It just didn’t keel over. A lot of things happened when Chris and I did things together, but we always managed it in the end.
